Michael Winterbottom’s 24 Hour Party People is set to return to cinemas across the UK and Ireland on 9 October 2026, marking 24 years since its original release. The film has been newly remastered in 4K and will also be available to own on Digital and 4K UHD from 26 October.

A premiere screening will open Beyond The Music, Greater Manchester’s music and media industry conference and festival, at MediaCity in Salford on 6 October. The event will be followed by a Q&A featuring Steve Coogan, director Michael Winterbottom and producer Andrew Eaton.

Produced by Revolution Films and written by Frank Cottrell‑Boyce, 24 Hour Party People features an ensemble cast including Paddy Considine, Shirley Henderson, Lennie James, John Simm, Ralf Little, Andy Serkis, Peter Kay, Sean Harris and John Thomson, alongside cameo appearances from figures associated with Manchester’s music scene.

Set in 1976, the film follows Granada TV presenter Tony Wilson (played by Coogan) as he attends a Sex Pistols performance that inspires him to establish Factory Records. The label went on to sign Joy Division — later New Order — and the Happy Mondays, and played a central role in the creation of The Haçienda nightclub.

The film offers a darkly comic account of the rise of Manchester’s music culture, depicting the personalities, excesses and creative energy that shaped the Madchester era. On its release in 2002, 24 Hour Party People received widespread critical acclaim and became regarded as one of the most significant British films of its decade.
