A new documentary charting the life and legacy of filmmaker David Lean will arrive in UK and Ireland cinemas on 20 November 2026, MetFilm Distribution has confirmed.
Maverick: The Epic Adventures of David Lean, directed by Barnaby Thompson, features commentary from leading filmmakers including Steven Spielberg, Wes Anderson, Denis Villeneuve and Francis Ford Coppola. Cate Blanchett narrates the film, with Kenneth Branagh voicing Lean.
The documentary premiered at Cannes Classics earlier this year and has since screened at Telluride, with upcoming festival stops at Hamptons and AFI Fest.
Lean, whose films include Brief Encounter, Lawrence of Arabia and Doctor Zhivago, is presented as a pioneering director who reshaped the scale and ambition of modern cinema. Thompson’s film explores both Lean’s celebrated work and the complexities of his personal life.
The release will precede a broadcast premiere on Sky.
